"Music You Can Feel"
The best music is not 'listened to' it's heard and felt and understood. That is what I try to do as a singer-songwriter, take you away to the song and let you live there for a few minutes.
The sounds of Temptations, Stevie Wonder and James Brown molded me into a feeling, soulful singer and musician. Sting and Diane Warren would later teach me about the value of story. My crazy gypsy life of a college educated, marketing guru, Strip-club Dj that culminated with a horribly failed marriage, provided all the material I needed to get "Starting Tonight" on Hot AC rotation with the band Greg Ferguson and I started called SoulThieves. After grueling touring, Radio, some nice awards, enduring every frontman/band cliche and some great music, I shifted back to what got me here. Living and writing and singing.
I started singing and playing piano when I was 7. I got my first guitar when I was 13 and when I heard Stevie Ray Vaughn for the first time on Rockline, I knew that was how I wanted to play guitar. That never happened, so I decided to concentrate on songwriting. My first song was called Dreamin' Again and I recorded it on a cassette player while multi-tracking with another Boom Box. I'm proud to say that I was a Choirboy in High School as well a perfoming musician. Lots of studio sessions and gigs and a whole lot of rough, but memorable times paved the way for playing regularly (over 200 shows a year). I still enjoy playing live solo or with a band and I feel absolutely at home in the studio. More to come I'm sure.
